The third EP from Djuma Soundsystem’s Body Language Vol. 21 features four modern stars all remixing his work.
For the first offering, Kostakis & Mr Luu link up and skilfully rework ‘Beatboxer.’ It’s a spiritual track thanks to the vocal chants and swirling pads that drift up to the heavens. One finger bass notes are bouncy, but the mood overall is one of warming melancholy. Brazilian Mezomo is a key player in his native scene and D Edge regular. His take on ‘Parga’ is led by a menacing synth line that takes your mind away. Fluttering chords and keys are rich and emotive as the jumbled drums and soulful vocals add to the hypnotic illusion.
Then comes Daniel Rateuke, a master of all forms of melodic house and tech and a Still Vor Talent associate. He remixes ‘Momento’ into an epic bit of his trademark melodic tech, with a skewed lead synth stretched out above the patient, progressive drums before a big drop really makes a mark. Last of all, Germany based Rey&Kjavik is fresh off a new EP on Mobilee and runs his own label Rkadash. Here his celestial chords are teased and tweaked over marching drums that will get the club under its moody spell.
All four of these remixes are standout house tracks that offer plenty of vital variation.
Sales from these three muted deep house tracks, which are heavy on texture and atmosphere, go to benefit the people of Beirut. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 6, 2020
